Leah and David’s Coral and Aqua Wedding

June 5, 2009

I am totally wild for this summery color combo- spicy oranges and corals against cool aqua. Leah and David wanted hip, artistic, modern decor for their beachside wedding at the beautiful Bel Air Bay Club. Bless Leah’s heart, she was open to a huge range of funky, happy flowers, including cockscomb (the one that looks like a fuzzy orange brain) and pincushion proteas. These quirky flowers really gave the arrangements more texture and drama. I love a girl who can see the beauty in cockscomb.

Leah wanted a luxe tropical feel, but she wanted to do it without the typical beachy elements like sand and shells. We brought in lots of elegant white coral, beautiful candlelight, fabric wrapped vases, and orange sea fans.

Thank you to the fabulous planner Kelly Demaray for being so much fun during the planning and execution of this very detailed wedding. You are so sweet!

To the staff at Bel Air Bay Club– I’ve never been treated so kindly at a wedding before. You were so cheerful and helpful. A+!

A big thanks to Sae Lee Photography for sending over these gorgeous images so quickly. I’m so excited to share them!

And now for the ravishing reception details!

There were two table setups, both using a variety of vases and candles. I am quite surprised I found fabric for the vases that matched the napkins to a T.

Alicia and Steven’s Darling Wedding

May 29, 2009

Amazing couple + Villa Del Sol D’Oro + Jasmine Star Photography + lovely Spring weather = a picture perfect wedding!

For me, it was love at first email– I had actually never physically met Alicia until the moment I handed off her bouquet. But I felt like I already knew her through all our excited emailing, and her fabulous blog, which documents every step of her wedding planning (including how she decided to hire The Treasured Petal, which I found so intriguing!)

They are quite the artsy fartsy couple: Alicia is a talented photographer and graphic designer, and Steven is a musician. I just knew their wedding would be chock full of details and sweet lovelies, and it was! I’ve never seen such cohesive design in each and every detail. Alicia made sure that everything, from her dress, to the linens, to the flowers, cake and menus pointed to her original vision for her wedding- whimsical, sweet, uber romantic, but with a little edge. As Alicia put it in our first email correspondence, “A vintage-inspired affair done in a totally modern way.”

Jasmine Star‘s work is always stellar, but she and JD really blew me away with this wedding. The following pictures are from her blog– go there and check out the slideshow for more!

Their colors- to die for! White, tan, the softest blush, and deep eggplant purple. Those were actually my original wedding colors (before I changed them 5 times). After seeing it all put together, I wish I had just stuck with them!

Thank you to the coordinator, Gabby of Weddings By Shaheen, for being so very organized and helpful!

My warmest congratulations to Alicia and Steven! I adored working with you, and I’m inspired by your kindness towards me, and your love towards one another. Makes me want to hug Joe a little tighter today when he comes home from work. Thank you 🙂

A Closer Look: Kathy and Gregg’s Wedding

May 20, 2009

This morning Kathy sent over her favorite images from her modern yet rustic wedding. This is the bride who sent me a dozen delectable cupcakes a few weeks ago which I devoured, causing me by necessity to start a “situp challenge” with Joe (200 situps and 50 back exercises every night. Or else!!!) Anyway, I digress.

Gabriel Ryan explored all the nooks and crannies at the charming French Estate, and used them as quirky backdrops for their images. I just love their vibrant, playful shots! Kerrie from Platinum Weddings by Kerrie was on point, as always.

Annaliza and Cory’s Winery Wedding

May 8, 2009

Annaliza and my husband Joe reunited via Facebook (I’m still holding out!) They were in high school band together, during those strange teenage years when Joe rocked a ponytail way longer than mine. As they caught up online, Joe told her that his wife (moi) owns a floral studio and that she should check out T-Petal for her upcoming wedding. Turns out, she had already stumbled upon my website online and was already planning on contacting me! Another coincidence- she had already booked MY fabulous wedding photographer and good friend, Trista Lerit, to shoot her wedding at one of my favorite venues, Falkner Winery in Temecula. Needless to say, I’ve been anticipating this wedding for many months.

Their color scheme was ultra dramatic- rich shades of burgundy, wine, and deep purple contrasting with shots of chartreuse and fuchsia. The look was abundant, overgrown, and wild and moody. We wanted guests to feel like they were at a lavish destination wedding far far away in Italy.

Here is a peak of the photos, courtesy of Trista Lerit. Not only is Trista an absolute delight to work with, but she takes the most striking, unique, colorful images. I knew she would capture all the love and joy and energy perfectly.  Sidenote: I actually had the pleasure of grabbing sushi with Trista and Angel yesterday.  There is never a dull moment when we are all together.  Lots of laughs, gasps, giggles, shrieks, and of course, dog talk 🙂  Trista loves her Shi Tzu Mochi as much as I love my Pesto and Basil.

The sheer fabric on the arch was billowing oh-so beautifully in the wind.  The ceremony spot at Falkner is just breathtaking.  You stare out onto rolling hills of grapevines and other wineries in the distance.

I spent months stopping by different bevmo’s asking if they could spare any wooden wine crates. Sometimes, if I asked nicely, they’d give them for free! We filled the crates with hurricane candles and a lush mixture of florals.

I’ll end with this heart warming photo.

Thank you Annaliza and Cory for always treating me like a good friend, with kindness and respect. I hope we can double date soon since you live so close! You can give me all the hilarious details from Joe’s high school years 😉 Have a spectacular life together!

More from Amy Squires!

April 22, 2009

The delightful Amy of Amy Squires Photography sent over some more stellar images from Nichole and Mike’s red, turquoise and black wedding. I can’t get over how striking the color combo was- the fiery, moody reds against cool teal was so sassy. The black made it edgy (and not too patriotic.) After the wedding, Nichole’s mom told me she was a bit wary of the funky color scheme, but was beyond thrilled when she saw it all come together on the wedding day. Thanks to Amy Squires for sharing these gorgeous images!

Julia and James’ Scrumptious Florals, Part 2

April 6, 2009

My favorite detail from Julia and James’ wedding was the cake table.  When the cake delivery man arrived, an inspired Angel said “What if you just put the cake on top of some books?” He thought it was a little strange, but he did, and it looked perfect!

We saved some of my favorite flowers for the simple white cake- delicate hyacinth and tuberrose, craspedia, coral colored anenomes, and dusty miller to name a few.

A closeup of the book page hurricanes. This one was a lovely English poem.

Here’s me and my assistant looking very serious and intense as we decorate! I have to hold my breath whenever I put flowers on the cake. It’s stressful! One little bump with your elbow and you’ve blown it!

Here’s me and Angel celebrating another fabulous 2009 wedding! Thanks for the iced soy chai, Angel!

The TPetal and Love and Splendor gals: Montita, Shana, Myself, Angel, and Anna.

And my amazing husband Joe, who accompanies me on almost every wedding to be my moral support and do the heavy lifting.

Thanks again to my cousin Jason for snapping pics of the florals- you are awesome.

Stay tuned for instructions on how to create your own mercury glass vessels and book page hurricanes!

Julia and James’ Scrumptious Florals, Part 1

April 3, 2009

Back in my UC Berkeley days, Angel and I would often escape to Mondo Gelato (now called Gelateria Naia) to indulge in rose flavored gelato. I clearly remember it’s delicate flavor, aroma, and perfect bubble gum pink color… if love had a flavor, it would be rose gelato. So when Angel, wedding planner extraordinaire, used such terms as “rose gelato”, “pink grapefruit juice”, and “lemonade” to describe Julia and James’ wedding colors, I knew this would be a sweet affair! Pair those bright colors with cool grey, and we had the perfect color palette.

Julia and James were so mellow and open to ideas. The decor would be charming, whimsical, and unique, aka Martha Stewart approved 🙂 Both Julia and James are writers, so they wanted to creatively incorporate books and writing into the decor wherever possible.

After meeting up with them, I sketched out a few ideas for their centerpieces:

julia-centerpiece-2
julia-short-centerpiece

The sketches, although rough, were exactly what Julia had in mind. Mercury glass containers would overflow with fluffy, scrumptious flowers, including roses, ranunculus, stock, acacia, and more. Those yellow balls on a stick represent billy balls, or craspedia. They remind me of those big lolly pops everyone used to sell for high school fundraisers that taste like nothing. Remember those?

Without further adieu, some beautiful images, courtesy of my cousin Jason (my talented web designer!) who tagged along to snap all the girly details!

Jason was in the right place at the right time, and was able to take a few quick pictures of the radiant bride right before she walked down the aisle!

White peonies, yellow peony tulips, tuberrose blossoms, ranunculus and sweetpeas wrapped in lace.

The bridesmaids’ colorful bouquets just popped against their demure gray dresses.

Parrot tulips, anenomes, roses, craspedia, sweet peas, ranunculus, and velvety dusty miller all tied together with a bubble gum pink ribbon.

There was no shortage of cute kiddos in this wedding:

Too cute for words!

The beautiful Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena needed little adornment, just some cheerful, springy florals along the aisle.

At the Westin Pasadena, guests were greeted by this charming escort card display:

Angel of Love and Splendor gathered different shaped galvanized trays and filled them with watermelon sour ball candies- the perfect bed for those beautiful escort cards. I snuck a few candies and they were delightful 🙂

Bud vases filled with various spring flowers added even more color and whimsy to the table.

We also prettified the gift table with mercury glass hurricanes and florals.

Mercury glass bowls contained lush arrangements of florals, acacia (the tiny yellow pom poms that grow abundantly on trees in early spring) and fuzzy geranium leaves. The arrangements were so soft to the touch.

Some tables had clusters of 3 unique mercury glass vessels. If you’re wondering about the hurricane candles, they are decorated with pages and images from old books (love stories, poetry, etc.), as a nod to Julia and James’ love of literature. I actually took the page below from one of my childhood favorites, Little Women.

Another ode to literature- the table numbers created by Angel herself!

The sweetheart table was decked out with beautiful candles, florals and old books:

Have I showered you with enough sugary sweet florals for one day? Wouldn’t want to give you a toothache 🙂 Check back later for Part 2 which will showcase my favorite detail – the incredible CAKE TABLE!!!

Sweet Detail Shots

March 28, 2009

I love working with Jasmine Star for so many reasons. Besides her energy and spunky personality, she takes FABULOUS floral detail shots and always spoils me with the images. It’s only been a month since Naomi and Steve’s 2.28.09 wedding, and yesterday morning I received a disc with all my favorite flower images. Score!

Red, Wine, and Blue!

March 23, 2009

My meeting with Nichole and Kerrie Underhill was one of the most fun consults ever. We laughed, we gushed, we brainstormed… and the vision for this energetic wedding emerged. Nichole wanted her florals to be voluptuous, dramatic and modern, with lots of sparkle. I loved how Nichole was willing to take risks with her florals and color palette.

Special thanks to Kerrie and her sweet assistants. Setting up all the intricate details for this wedding was not an easy task, and the Platinum Weddings gals were so eager to help us out along the way. You rock!

Extra special thanks to my amazing TPetal helpers (Shana, Deb, and my lovely sis) who, with superhuman strength, hoisted 70 pound arrangements onto the tables, snapped the heads off of over 1000 roses, poured enough blue water to fill a swimming pool, and came back at midnight to clean it all up. I adore you guys!

I am so excited to share Nichole and Mike’s wedding with you. When I saw Amy Squire’s blog post this morning, my jaw dropped. They captured this wedding so fabulously. Check out their blog post for the full scoop!

Kathy and Gregg’s Mossy Green Wedding

March 21, 2009

Kathy and Gregg saw a funky pattern on their photographer’s shootsac and instantly fell in love with the playful green, black and white color scheme. This became the inspiration for the wedding. We wanted to use those very modern colors in a more natural, rustic way to complement their venue, The French Estate- a beautiful old house surrounded by trees in Orange, my hometown.

Here’s a little peak at their fresh and modern wedding captured by the insanely talented Gabriel Ryan. It was so great to finally meet Gabriel and Carlie- I’ve been a long time admirer of their work, and they couldn’t have been more chill, sweet, and gracious that day. Check out their blog for the full post!

Thank you to Kerrie Underhill for being so fabulous throughout the planning and execution of Kathy and Gregg’s wedding. Kerrie is so sharp! Not a detail is overlooked when Kerrie is in charge, and I love that!
